Vietnamese art is characterized by the vibrancy in the quality of its colors, as well as the sense of poetic, dreamlike serenity conjured in its imagery. Contemporary Vietnamese artists use their canvas as a medium to share nostalgic memories of the past or create a fantasy world of stylized representation. Over the past decade their works have become an established and sought after presence in the international fine art scene. Sold in galleries and exhibited in museums worldwide, Vietnamese paintings have been featured in art auctions at Christie's and Sotheby's. Tamarine’s current exhibit of Contemporary Vietnamese art includes a collection of nine paintings with works on paper and canvas. Our featured artists include Pham Hoang Anh, a nouveau-realist whose works frequently focuses on the spiritual values of the human experience; Le Loc, an impressionist who uses gouache techniques to create impacting depth in his pieces; and Do Ngoc Diep, a young, up and coming impressionist who believes that nature’s true beauty is most prominently found in pastoral images of the countryside. These contemporary Vietnamese artists have found extraordinary favor among collectors in the United States, Europe and Asia. Uncontrived and uncomplicated, these illustrations of simple, pastoral life are seen by art critics as antidotes to modern life and the highly intellectual modern art scene. This semi-annual exhibit will close with a cocktail event held at the close of the exhibition to auction the artwork. Profits generated during the auction will be donated to charity. The Kipp Bayview Academy is a middle school in the Bayview/Hunter’s Point neighborhood of San Francisco that is dedicated to closing the achievement gap and to have every one of its students go to college.
