THE END OF AN ERA . . .

After nearly 70 years of history and three generations of this family-run restaurant, Fabbro's of Redwood City has announced it will close its doors on Saturday, Oct. 5th. For the days leading up to their closing, current proprietor Michael Fabbro and his father, Frank, will be on site to greet and visit with old friends and regulars. The family and staff wish to thank customers for patronage and loyalty over the years.

George and Mary Fabbro first opened the restaurant in 1933, following prohibition. Son Frank took the reigns in the 1950s, and his son, Michael, took over in the '90s. For more information or to make reservations, call (650) 368-1491.


Tamarine is an upscale Vietnamese restaurant slated to open its doors to the public Thursday, Oct. 17th. The goal of co-proprietors Anne Le and Tammy Huynh is to create a space featuring Southeast Asian art and a menu with light but flavor-intensive small plate entrees. Hailing from the Vung Tau group of restaurants in the South Bay, Tamarine is located at 546 University Ave. in downtown Palo Alto, in the space formerly occupied by Perry's. FESTIVAL . . .

Canada College in Redwood City is hosting the Fifth Annual Arts & Olive Festival this weekend, Sept. 28-29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature local restaurant food, crafts, live entertainment and tastings of olives, olive oils and vinegars. RESTAURANT NEWS. . .

Spago Palo Alto and K & L Wine Merchants are partnering for the "Fete du Bordeaux", which will take place at Spago Palo Alto on Sunday, Nov. 10. Wolfgang Puck will be in attendance, and the reception, followed by a six-course meal, will be accompanied by appropriate wines from Bordeaux. The cost is $200 per ticket, including tax and gratuity. Palo Alto's California CafÈ is currently offering a "Market is Down, Martinis are Up" promotion. For each weekday the Dow Jones Industrial Average closes on a down tick from now through Oct. 31, the restaurant bar will serve martinis between 4 to 7 p.m. for $3 each.
