Tamarine Restaurant & Gallery Hosts Semi-Annual Benefit Silent Art Auction April 3rd Event Raises Nearly $10,000.00 for Eastside College Preparatory School PALO ALTO, Calif., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Tamarine Restaurant's semi-annual benefit silent art auction was held on Sunday, April 3rd and raised nearly $10,000.00 for East Palo Alto's Eastside College Preparatory School. The auction showcased the works of contemporary Vietnamese artists whose creations were produced and purchased by Anne Le, proprietor of the restaurant, in Vietnam last year. The benefit included live jazz, international wines, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres hosted by Tamarine. The invitation-only event featured nine major works produced by established and rising-star artists. The featured artists included Nguyen Thanh Binh, an emerging impressionist whose works are quickly becoming one of Vietnam's most sought after exports; Hoang Thanh Vinh Phong, an abstract artist famous for his artistic expression of the feelings experienced in human relationships; and Quach Dong Phuong, whose abstract expression takes a unique look at how people and their environment work together, often to the detriment of the individual's character. Uncontrived and uncomplicated, these illustrations of simple, pastoral life are seen by art critics as antidotes to modern life and the highly intellectual modern art scene. Eastside College Preparatory School is an all-scholarship private secondary school serving motivated high school students from the low income, minority communities of East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park, California. With a current drop out rate in these communities reaching as high as sixty-five percent, Eastside's program is designed to address problems fundamental to students' preparation and environment. The program offers college preparatory curriculum taught in a highly supportive environment, class sizes of no more than 18 students, an extended school day until 5:00 p.m. containing faculty-supervised tutorial periods and regular communication between the school and students' families. Eastside's innovative program has resulted in a 98% four-year college attendance rate for its graduating classes. Tamarine is located at 546 University Avenue (between Webster and Cowper) in Palo Alto, California. Free parking is located directly behind the restaurant at the Cowper/Webster Garage and street parking is also available. Tamarine is open nightly for dinner and Monday through Friday for lunch.
